My name is Avery Rogers, and this is my eportfolio for my ENC2135 class at FSU. In the beginning of this class, we set up a blog page whee we would continually write blog posts about what we read about or activities that we did in class. I had never done something like that before so it was an interesting experience. I developed a greater appreciation for it when I finished all of my blogs because it was something that I would be ale to look back on or share with people for years to come. Our first project was all about genre, and defining it in our own terms, and using an artifact as a way to represent our definition of genre. At first, I was honestly very confused and did not understand what I was supposed to write about at all. But after a few class discussions I quickly understood what it was I was supposed to be doing. My chosen artifact was a clip from The Dark Knight Rises, which is one of my favorite movies. I chose the clip because I always got emotional during it and felt it represented my definition of genre well. For our second project, we had to do a research paper of any topic we would like, as long as it was something we weren't very familiar with. I chose to do my research paper on puppy mills, which I had loosely heard about before but I had never read much into it or really figured out exactly what they were. I have always been very passionate about animals so I felt that I would be interested enough in this topic to be able to do a good job on it. It was a lot more work than I expected but I think it really will help me in the long run because I learned a lot about how to find credible sources and how to effectively implement them into my writing. For project three, our assignment was to take the topic we used from project two, or my puppy mill topic, and use it to create three genres. The three genres were a physical genre, a digital genre, and a networking genre. For my physical genre, I decided to do a cartoon. I did a cartoon because I felt that it wasn't a popular choice such as a poster or a flyer. I like to be creative and I felt that a cartoon would be more effective to get my message across anyway, since people are more inclined to look at a cartoon than a lengthy block of text. For my second genre, the digital genre, I decided to make a Prezi that included a YouTube video I made at the end. I made an entire Prezi that included a video because I discovered that my video-making skills were a lot less impressive than I thought, so I needed to back up my lame video with a decent presentation. For the final genre, the networking genre, I created a twitter account. I felt twitter would be the best because a lot of college students get puppies, so they are a large part of my audience, and the majority of college students have a twitter account. This project taught me that there are many ways to present a paper that can help get more recognition and to help make it more interesting. Overall this course has been a lot of learning and adjusting to new ideas and concepts I never imagined I would be doing. Especially putting together an eportfolio.
